Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

Felt way quicker in today’s game. I think the swing quickness caused my timing to be off because i was early on everything

Just a thought, but looking at your swings, it seems that you are not flowing through into hip slip. Your rear hip is jammed up until you launch the barrel. Try some hover drills and feel hip slip becoming part of your continuous pull back.

If you were able to flow through into hip slip, I would expect to see the rear hip releasing here. Play around with how the scap pullback frees up your rear hip.

My rear arm action was preventing me from getting stretched up the back.
I know this isn’t the best video angle but tell me if you like this better jryan15

That clip does look a lot tighter. Good observation on your rear arm in the clip that I posted. As I watch it more, it does have a feel like you bled upward with the arm movement instead of pulling around tighter.

Maybe this will help the conversation a little

do you still think that my rear hip coil looks jammed? I will try to flow into the stretch as I get better with the movements. im precoiling my rear hip coil at about 95% and my scap about the same

The latest clip definitely looks better, but hard to tell fully from the back. Some of these movements are hard to describe so hopefully you see what I meant about how your pullback was bleeding upward. In the Kemp clip he is clearly pulling around making his coil tighter. In the clip that I had posted of you, it looked like instead of going back/around like Kemp, your tension bleeds up your spine. I think it's because of the arm movement that you discussed.

Doing half turns here. Focus was getting stretch up the back AGAINST the spine.
