Ball flight tells you how much of anything is too much.
I think I understand what you are saying about tilt. Taking some more swings, feels to me that if I really focus on driving with the back leg, I can consistently drive the ball regardless of how much I tilt. When I was lazy with my back leg is when I had too steep an uppercut through the zone.
