Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

Im not jumping on anyone. Just gets old.

I have never understood anyone wanting a hitter to swing at a ball at the knees. Never. It actually makes no sense what so ever. Swing at balls that are up. Belt high, thigh hi, bellybutton hi, even letter hi. Your chances of success vs failure are much better there than on pitches at the knee's. We take pitches at the knee's until we have to swing at them.
The HANDS and the HIPS DRIVE the Swing! The SHOULDERS are along for the ride.

then your out. So far around here. Belt high (ball). I wish they would call the high strike.
If the catcher can catch the ball over the plate (knee or lower). Strike!

The reason I would like to see then at that pitch location is because you have to get to good position to hit it.

Swingbuster's spoke endlessly about BHUT taking the low pitch away from the pitcher. InfiniTee. Release the barrel and take the golf hack.

If you have a good arc going, you can square it up. There are a crapload of clips, hell the ones I do with Cabrera in X-mo, Wright, and I have seen many Manny clips killing the low ball.

I can see your point about not attacking the low ball early in the count, or being ahead in the count, but with these mechanics you should be able to get after them.

no Im not out unless I hit it AT someone. I played plenty in your hometown there. They are no better there than anywhere else. I'm sure that plenty of pitchers throw balls belt high or higher plenty often and you can get in just as a good a position on a ball up there as any ball down. if not better.

Something else you better learn, Many many many balls get hit very hard up in the zone that would not be called strikes. Good hitters dont give pitching to much credit!

Pronk, didnt say you couldnt square the low ball. What I am saying is, and Donny and I disagreed on it in more than one conversation, is that why in the world would you want to try and hit the pitch down and take the pitch up. ML hitters make millions on hitting mistake pitches. Know where mistake pitches are thrown? its not knee high thats for sure.

but he couldn't with that swing and now he has a swing thats working as far as his dad says. He will improve and add tip and rip because he is on these boards and has already bee ntold about it.

He will not add tip n rip without returning to where he was....or very near it.

A total waste of time to take him where he is.

He was already bluring his barrel rearward. Then it was taken away. Now you say you will put it back.

But not until after you've said the current clip is better.

                Go figure.

                Totally uninformed coaching.
