Teach, you requested video from me in the "Send it Rearward..." thread I started. Weather pattern has been awful here since. Nothing but rain, biblical rain!
Anyway, this thread you started is exactly what I was trying to get at with this:
"Hi all,
I can't remember what thread it is in so I started this one. I read where one of Tewks' guys said, if memory serves, and to paraphrase "I just sent the barrel reward as hard as I could and it became easy to swing".
If that is close to correct then I think I may have recently done that for the first time and can now almost do it on demand. I am trying to see if what I am feeling though is the "correct" feeling.
There are so many things to account for with the HLP so I decided I had to simplify it for myself because I'm an old man. I took a suggestion Teach made for my son and went with it. I tipped the bat further than I normally would have and that did in fact for me to want to untip it with more gusto. As I did that I focused on nothing but pullback of backside of my body. What I found was that the barrel was simply moving through the zone but I felt like I hadn't put nearly as much effort into it with my arms/forearms as I had all my life with the "knob to the ball" swing I was taught in the early '70's. Now here is the thing, the negative seemed to be that I didn't have very good bat control as in, I wasn't able to put the barrel exactly where I would have liked to in an attempt to actually hit a pitch.
SO, my questions are....
1. Did I finally stumble onto the core "feeling" of what it feels like to swing close to the HLP way?
2. If so, would it simply be repetition from here on out to develop the required bat control necessary to actually hit?
Thanks gang!"
But, what you describe is what I "think" I was doing. I just got tight, one legged, tipped more than normal a la Manny, sent it rearward with hands/forearm muscles and voila! The swing was practically effortless. It felt sudden as if I couldn't stop it! I thought the key was keeping my rear side tight and "pulling back, all pulling back against my rear leg which was trying to be rock solid". If I actually "get" this and I'm doing it right, I will be happy to make some diagrams so HI people get it. As you always note, very tough to describe and understand in WORDs alone!
This thread might be the key! Would it follow that the adjustability that y'all reference would again be "hands" centric too?
