Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

So i think I’m having trouble with being fused right now. I’m having trouble fusing my upper and lower and when I ever I go to a moving ball I get so arm dominant. Should I just focus on my snap. I’m also just not getting my proper coil with a moving ball. It looks good of tee work. Any help or tips would be much appreciated. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e90UgJTx0Pc

This helped Chloe start to find and feel a fused torso.

She does sometimes have a little issue with live pitching too, part of the growth.

Focus on the leg turning the body forward.

Looks like you stop pulling back and around when you go to the ball

Yesterday and today. I really really focused on my snap and the video I think shows some improvement. It looks less sloppy. First time all summer I felt good from side toss. Tomorrow I’m going to try it out from front toss. What do you think mike? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DexrR-pqMX0

Yes, I can feel the resistance in upper half going rearward as leg turns forward. Nice job

Took a step backwards today off of front toss. I was losing my stretch in my low back along with my snap got extremely sloppy. Really need to focus on loadin around my back leg not up on it which I am really doing in this video. Going to try a lot of mirror swings and load stops. Snap needs to get cleaner. Need to be able to maintain stretch with step and increase stretch with stride. Idk if maybe I should try a different handset for my snap. I think focusin on my low back stretch should help with a lot of my problems. Any thoughts??? Tips? Drills? Thanks in advance https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xPoPNNXWQ7s

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnr9bvlQGG4 Had to take some more swings tonight lol. Feels better worked on more around leg and not on it. I really focused on around it with coil and not back and it helped

From either handset.....Brandon's barrel turn remains 'about his forearms'.

What is the teach to make sure that happens?

The ULL girls do it quite well.
Look how TM son Brandon swings the bat. Try and copy this pattern.

Mike what’s that around his arms? And I like looking at Brandon’s moves a lot very clean

It’s called the perfect connection. It’s a golf aid but Richard made a home made version for a lot less money

I tried copying teachermans son swing but didn’t have any success with it. His lower half just works so well https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LSPaFGu4rI8 I want to have a better running start. For me everything simply drifts forward and my hands raise and then I pull the arms. What’s the best thing to focus on or do in order to get better results in my lower half and the running start?

You are Way better. General movement is good. Now work on going forward a bit more while keeping everything else the same. Main difference between your attempt to duplicate my son was amount of forward movement. Go forward more aggressively but counter that aggression with good hip/back/scap pull back such that it looks like there wasn't much aggression.
