Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

I was trying my best to maintain held scap here with the long stick (yes it’s not a PVC pipe, I know). I like the command drill better here then I do with a real bat in my hand. Not sure why? If anyone has some ideas feel free to run them by me. No wrong answers cause I’m not even sure where the difference occurs. Also I feel like my shoulders may be a little steep down before the swing? Just something I noticed.

Snap quicker. Get in the forearms out of the shoulders. Create a burst.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll take some swings tonight with the focus on resisting shoulder movement and get forearms turning the barrel quicker behind me and post them here

Command drill here with focus on using more forearms early and turn barrel deeper behind me and resisting shoulders. Better burst?

Lot of snap stops trying to attack oppo and feel work today leads to this off tee. Trying to kill arms and upper body except forearms and held scap

            Hi Alex!!

Swings look great. The things that truly helps with my kids is maintaining the stretch that we worked to create, keeping the hands high, and the swinging to plant the lead foot. Getting the true feeling of the swing launching from the top down. Launching instantaneously! All In!!!

I’ll get some swings tomorrow morning working on that feel. Thanks for the feedback!

May surprise you, but I see no forearm action. There is no rearward snap.

Definitely surprising. Maybe here you will see it. I’ll keep working. First one almost took me out. Haha. This machine was throwing two seams, change ups and cutter. Still barreled up about 40% I would say.

Here’s command drill. I see barrel blurring early but maybe it’s eyewash. Is it a result of my shoulders spinning still? I’ll lock in and really try to work on forearms snapping rearward. It seems like when I focus on that I get disconnected and really start getting too wristy and hitting top spin ground balls to left. Any advice on what I can do to prevent that? I’m currently making one of those PVC pipes with the weight on it to work on the snaps. I suppose that would be good to work with for awhile.

The two clips above are from this morning before I saw teach’s post btw. I will get more tomorrow with more of a focus on what he’s talking about

Here’s snap stops. More swings coming later. I did feel work for about an hour today with this pipe before I took any swings. Still can’t see improvement in forearm action. :/ not sure what else to do

SnF... also if anyone has a better way of posting videos please feel free to give advice. I do most of this off my phone and can only post one vid at a time. I don’t mind doing it that way but makes thread kind of long haha. Feeling new things but still feel pushy looking at video. I 100% feel like I’m turning it as rearward as possible but maybe there’s some improvement here. Marathon not a sprint but I treat everyday with urgency and want to figure things out ASAP.
