Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

Instructional Starter Pak

MAKE THE BEST USE OF YOUR TRIAL PERIOD
POST A CLIP OF YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER
I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

I'm a high school coach that helps with hitting. Not an expert, I realize that. Most of the kids have hitting coaches and I try to work within their ways to improve their overall hitting method. I'd like to get better and am willing to learn . Here is one of my students we can start with. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome Mike,

You have come to the right place. Just dive in and enjoy the journey. It's certainly worth taking. There are many people on this site who will help you. Study, swingto duplicate, find your feels, ask questions and post videos. Eventually things make sense both mentally and physically. I'm still learning but have truly enjoyed every minute of this ride. Good luck!!!

Thank you I'm excited to learn and hopefully be a better coach. There is so much information out there is a challenge to understand.

After looking at different post on the site, I can see several adjustments that need to be made going forward. I'm going to start with turning the barrel and getting behind the corner. ANY suggestions are welcomed.

Trying and I mean trying to swing 1 legged. Being a 2 leg hitter this is a challenge for sure.

          Hey Mike,

This site of full of great threads. If you haven't seen it yet one of my favorite drills for Barrel Turn is Coach Sorianos on this thread http://hittingillustrated.com/forum/...em-progression
There are a lot of senior members on here that I would lean on since they have been doing this a lot longer than me.

          Thanks,
          Jason

Your gal is swinging with her arms. She has a sweeping arm motion. That means that the arms take her hands and sweep them forward to generate force. In a high-level swing the hands remain at the armpit or shoulder tip as the forearms turn in the barrel into a rearward arc that comes around to the ball while the hands remain at the arm pit for as long as possible.

I see that the upside to this way of hitting s going to make a big impact on the hitting of my players. I filmed myself with a pvc pipe. I just want to make sure I'm on the right path. I realize more is needed but here is my 1st attempt at it.

That's a good demo. You're getting the idea.

Thank you, I've already seen improvements in power and the ability to get on plane with the ball. When you say about the swivel being key to getting on plane , I saw it 1st hand with my hitters. I was teaching something different and could see my hitters had trouble hitting the ball on the sweet spot, now a lot more consistent contact with more distance. I know we still have a lot of work ahead of us but I'm excited about it and so are my hitters.

Here is one of my players doing a cross between the 1legged drill and the stretch n fire. I know we have work to do but I love that she is getting real aggressive with her swing.

My philosophy, is the fence is only 200 ft. We're going to either hit it over or get a double off the fence.

Working on turning the barrel. Need to do better at raising the front elbow.

I just want to make sure I'm on the right path going the right direction. This is how I interpret the turning the barrel progression. When I say elbows I'm including the forearms. Thanks

Hey Mike, WRT to this clip. She needs to thrust more and turn less. She is taking her swing to left field from the turning she is doing. Take that swing right at the screen with more thrust and rear hip tilt. Hope that makes sense
