Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

  • Timing... When to coil...

We still spend way too much time pitching , but we've been sneaking in some hitting here and there.

Yesterday I was doing side by sides comparing her swing to a girl who poked one out the other day. I wanted to get a feel for comparing time to launch and what not.

One thing that really took me by surprise was how early in the pitchers wind up Baily's practice swing started to coil to acheive the same contact frame. If she wants to execute in the game like she does in her practice cut, she will need to start coiling way earlier than she typically does.

You can also see that the HR hitter has to commit her barrel a frame earlier while also still losing adjust ability due to her mechanics.

BTW - Baily hit her first HR the other day! Then she followed it with a grand slam in the next at bat!!!! That was the last strike she saw that day, 8 straight balls Her game swing is still no where as good as her practice swing, but I'm finally getting her to stop hugging the plate and now she's barreling up better.

This clip better highlights her first movement when timed to the pitcher.

So for a while now, DD's had a Jekyll and Hyde swing. Killing balls in the cages and killing me in games . We've always found ourselves on teams where "production" is critical so there aren't many opportunities for trial and error... Praise the Lord because last week we ran up against a pitcher throwing low 60's but with a weird slow windup. She was buzz sawing through us when I told Baily that she needs to start early and hover longer to get through the slow windup and then "snap-stop" into contact. She banged a double into a gap and it was great. So we kept doing it, hovering for what feels like forever trying to never sacrifice the front foot into plant.

Now after 30 PAs, she's hitting 0.570 with 6 doubles rocking line drive after line drive. Her barrel turn can be much better and there is a good amount of power being left on the table. I'm excited to see if we can make the current swing the new baseline and then start building in a snappier barrel turn soon.

It's nice to have her pitching more consistently so that we can focus on hitting for once!!! Thanks again to everyone here for the continued support!
