Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

    Turn that barrel, everyone!

NEVER let anything you add change the above.

Believe it or not....the naysayers would complete miss the suddenness and speed of his barrel. They can't see it.

P.S. Knob extension going right through the ball.
I think he has a pretty good handle on this feeling.

33" of maple flying through the zone pretty well. Fast hands!

I think he can move out a little better.

I mentioned the 'knob extension' thing to him...

      • Much new coach chatter about "get your foot down early".

Also, still not loving his alignment.

Swinging like he just came from lifting for football (which he did)

        • Yes....not his best. Lead leg and hip close him off instead of allowing the rear hip to roll over the ball of the femur.

Foot down early chatter is not good. Needs to tune it out.

          • A little frustrating having to sit back and watch for a few more weeks... Football workouts 5 afternoons + Baseball workouts Thu night and Sat morning with new coaches doesn't leave me much opportunity with him.

We talk about some things but not much hands-on until March.

Talked about cutting himself off... seriously wanted to jump into the cage and fix it!

              • Frame rates look effed up.

No time to remake at the moment.

When I mentioned it to Matt, he said, "Wow, that's really cool." Having said that, it doesn't look likely for me/us.

I am sure you will get a lot out of something so firsthand and interactive. Make lots of video!

Thanks. We'll see. That would be great and I hope so. This would be the one to do it.

I've got several things I'd like us to get fixed/done soon.

I think he'll have fun with school ball, as always.

Summer schedule will be more consistently challenging and a grind.

                                100%.

Was what we talked about in the car going to the last session on Saturday.

These are what I sent him as examples...

...I told him simply that he has to pull-back for another beat going into his timing for GO.

                                Not quite there...

...but I'm confident we can improve/fix this with a little more focus.

                                Thanks!
