Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

  • Doubledeuce's Latest....

Same two clips synced a frame different since there is no contact frame in the clip on the right. Basically, either way you sync it, it's a half frame off.

Anyway.....neither are right.....yet.....they take sides at the dumpster over which is better.

He simply will not turn the barrel with his forearms. His handset doesn't allow it.

Or....said better.....HIS LOAD doesn't allow it. I don't believe the bat is ever 'in his hands'. But if it was early on....the load removes it from his hands and puts it in his arms.

What does that mean? It means his hands are helpless until they get pulled or pushed forward. They can not JUST turn the barrel.

When a kid this young swings it better than you.....

.....it's WAY BEYOND time to get a new instructor.

Can you 'feel' the difference in what they set up to do?

Deuce sets up to push forward with/from his chest. You can feel it. And that is EXACTLY what he does.

The kid sets up to turn the barrel with his hands and back. And he does.

Yes it is so obvious! I know in my recent SnF swings that it looks wayyyy different than Deuce. I can see my hands and forearms working, but more importantly I can "feel" it byt looking and doing of course.

While it feels a little funny I am reminded of, at one time (I'd forgotten) taking the back elbow and kind of pinning it to the side for a few dry swings to feel what it's like not to load with the upper arms. Your hands can still get back.

Got some more today. kind of a deep swivel going on there.

I am just not a fan of the extremely turned in front hip. I just can't find any good examples of a pro-swinger getting that twisted back via the hips. Who can help me here.

Almost seems like he's lessened the front hip load greatly in the second one.

Ben's elbow whips away from the body, Deuce's moves down and in because of a rear arm push.
                        Go Illini !!!!!!!!!!

                          ABSOLUTLEY.

                          It's been there forever.

It will always be there until he upticks around one leg.

Two hip and two leg rotation is on display.

AND......two hip and two leg rotation THAT DOES NOT REACH THE BARREL. It doesn't DRIVE the barrel. It just supplies momentum.

                            And no pronation.

No jut that creates the shoulder bypass.
