Step One For New Members

If you are reading this, you are in the main forum....where all the good discussion and exchange of ideas occurs.

Instructional threads are 'stickied' to the top of this forum page in an effort to get new members to see the work that gets done here. There are 5 different threads of a dad and his kid, going through the HittingIllustrated process. They are quite instructional. I think you'll be impressed with what you see. The kid's progress is amazing. One of them is now a D1 player who chose college after being drafted. Another is a DII college player. A third is his brother who is now in high school. The fourth is a current high school freshman. And the fifth is my son who is now out of college and playing amateur fastpitch softball. Take a look. The terminology is likely to confuse you at first. But do your best to understand.

Then, there is another forum titled The Second Engine, found just below this one on the main page, which consists of 18 threads that have been chosen as 'good reads' for new members to get 'up to snuff' on what is taught here.

It is my recommendation that you spend your first hour or so in that forum reading those threads. Then, come here to ask questions. We love it when clips of hitters are posted.

And here is a link to an Instructional Starter Pak. It has the basic information. There are many details that go with each step that are too cumbersome to put in the Pak.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN ANALYSIS AND A RECOMMENDATION.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on figuring out what the Hand Pivot Point and what the Rear Hip Pivot Point are....and how they are synced together to create the high level swing.

Welcome.

I see some barrel whip in this guy. Do you?

can you post that by Bo jackson? You will see some hip shoulder separation.

Then see how they accomplish it with barrel action during the load

I went through all the FP clips. I saw one swing with some torque. I saw no swings with any barrel action. Most are back side push with lead leg extension after contact. THe hands pass the hips on all but one and that is Michelle Smith front view.

Compare all against WHAT??? The best MLB swings. Yeah ....right. The mechanics are completely opposite. THey are failing at getting the hands back as the hips rotate open. The push the hands straight back stuff will not work. THey will just come straight forward and pass the hips

I have always had a soft spot for Damon. He played for me in the Area Code Games back in the early 90's. From the same HS as CC Sabathia.

I have been thinking about this "arc" a lot lately. Also, the term palm up palm down at contact. The arc and the torque of the bat get the hands in a palm up palm down position just after launch allowing the batter to be in a solid position to get to any pitch. Look at Bo - he is palm up palm down early in the swing. If I just rotate without any adjustments of the hands/forearms I could never get to the spot you see in these hitters.

            Stealth,

You said "at contact", then you said "just after launch".

Can one say "at launch"? Or even "before launch"?

            I guess "launch" needs defined.

Obviously at contact you need to be at palm up palm down.

However this arc and torque of the bat gets you in that position much earlier in the swing.

I think this position of plam up palm down happens just after launch.

Definition of launch - just after the front foot touches down. The hips and hands go.

                Here's another good topic

                Define "flat hands".
