    mac,

    With the new bat....

Have cmac 'see' and align a diagonal plane dry swing to a ball sitting on the tee on the outside corner. Align into the opposite field.

Have him begin to launch at it at that ball.....with the intention of driving it oppo.....then suddenly turn (around the rear ball of the femur) to hit a real ball set up on a tee on the inside corner.....pull it.

    It's as simple as that.

If that is easy for him....I'm a believer in the new bat.

I really like the barrel turn I see with the new bat. It just needs a new direction. If that is easy for him then he has suddenly fixed what I have seen as missing.

    I'm thinking it will happen.

    Takes earlier autopilot.

The key is launch it oppo....then turn.

    Don't turn then launch.

we will video this... Right now I need to determine if I invest in a lighter bat, which I probably will for younger kids or just have him use this bat , which I think is a little too heavy....

it feels like this thing has some promise...

I will also do this drill...

You are there, I am not.

I don't see the bat as being too heavy for him.

By that I mean, I don't see any degradation of mechanics that occur or could occur because of the weight.

Now, he may very well be able to turn a lighter version faster. In that regard it could be too heavy for him.

But I don't see any weight causing mechanical problems.

And, I'm not sure, but the weight he feels could be a very good thing for him....training his forearm muscles.

But as an instructor, a lighter bat for youngens may be necessary. Each come with their own strength or lack of strength.

A bit off the subject, but am intrigued with the Camwood. As an aside, I purchased the Insider Bat some time ago, before discovering HI.com. It's been moth balled, but would like to resurrect it if I know your recommended application. I scoured the website but could not locate a forum. I imagine using it in reinforcing SnF, but would like to know what I would be looking for, and under what context, (eg. ???Snap Stop Drill, see 4/25/11).

Also: Any traps in using the device that would be considered "improper"?

            I love the InsiderBat also.

The angle of the paddle forces the hitter to 'turn the barrel'.

With good instruction you can learn to turn it properly.

            And.....do it from one leg.

Here are a couple of examples....

I rarely pay attention to the metal/wood/bbcor/etc bat threads....just not interested.

However, I have a question for you bat experts.

Is the Cam Bat legal for game use?

Call me stupid if I am.

But....remember.....Barry Bonds used to doctor the knob of his bat. He had some big blob on the end. IMO, it was weighted to counter balance the barrel....but I'm not sure.

              Anyone?

I doubt that bat would be legal.

The bat threads are not really applicable for you, it's more of a performance thing. With the composite bats that were super hot it made it really tough for a kid a with decent mechanics to stand out. Quick-twitch athletic kids with a not-so-good swing would perform at the same level. It's not quite the same with wood/bbcor. I literally see gapper line drives petering out 5 feet in the grass for outs. At least what looked like would be a hit with the older bats anyway.

Ideally the kids here will come out ahead if they can get the stuff down.

                  (a) The bat shall be a smooth, round stick not more than 23/4 inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42 inches in length. The bat shall be one piece of solid wood.
NOTE: No laminated or experimental bats shall be used in a professional game (either championship season or exhibition games) until the manufacturer has secured approval from the Rules Committee of his design and methods of manufacture.
                  (b) Cupped Bats. An indentation in the end of the bat up to one inch in depth is permitted and may be no wider than two inches and no less than one inch in diameter. The indentation must be curved with no foreign substance added.
                  (c) The bat handle, for not more than 18 inches from its end, may be covered or treated with any material or substance to improve the grip. Any such material or substance, which extends past the 18 inch limitation, shall cause the bat to be removed from the game.
NOTE: If the umpire discovers that the bat does not conform to (c) above until a time during or after which the bat has been used in play, it shall not be grounds for declaring the batter out, or ejected from the game.
                  (d) No colored bat may be used in a professional game unless approved by the Rules Committee.

Here is a hand path drill emailed from the cam wood bat guys to me

                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_flx...e_gdata_player

Not a big fan of him saying knob to ball but he demos an inside path

The concept of top hand release he is big on.. Was that old lau stuff

My son once worked with a weight on the knob of the bat, I believe it was call a Pro Cut weight. We were using a format from Preston Peavy (Peavy.Com). Peavy from what I understand used a lot of Lau stuff and also preached top hand release. What I think I've learned in my hitting journey is that there are two types of swings, knob pullers or barrel turners. It seems to me that the knob pullers have a certain amount of sucess but have a more slice swing that develops very little time in the hitting zone. The barrel turners which are taught at this site stay in the hitting zone a lot longer than the slicers and have a larger percentage of hiting the ball square with power.
As far as the weight location on the bat I beleive the knob weight produces knob pullers and the cam bat could help develope a barrel turner swing if used correctly. In the video the instructor in my opinion is emphasing pulling the knob not turning the barrel.

Only about 10" between where the weight is applied to the bat in these two examples but miles of difference between the swings.

I am thinking about getting a Cam Wood Bat but will use it doing only the drills promoted at this site.

By the way Rich I am trying to get the oldest sons batting stats from this past season. I know he led the team with 8 doubles and 30 RBI's. His coach which is a BUTT has not gave me his official stats. He had a great year !!

Bought the beast, I think it weighs 45 OZ. Second time swinging it. I actually think this thing "makes" you turn the barrel to get a decent hit--- it'll wear you out fast.

So I assume your getting these same video drills? Any thoughts about this drill, Don't wanna use this thing incorrectly but kinda odd how he describes it

I got the 30" which I think weighs 34 oz, but when he's used to swinging a 19 oz bat it is a big step up so we have been taking 5 swings with it off a tee then going to aprox 17 oz bat & then back to cam wood bat
