Very few people who think they are swing experts know what this word means and how it relates to hitting a moving projectile (baseball) with a striking object (bat) that you can't see. The reason you need to make the hands active is because you can't SEE them. Nor can you SEE the bat. You need to see them through FEEL. Tipping the bat, barrel loading, barrel awareness. The only thing you can see is the ball.

IMO when a hitter gives their bat some preliminary motion, such as making small circles with the bat head, they are making themselves more aware of the bat head.

I agree. Most coaches believe this produces a slow swing-I disagree wholeheartedly with this assumption.
