The poster is saying 'lets do ANYTHING but put a real fix on a real problem."

How hard will YOU work to avoid high level swing mechanics?
Why such an interest in short term bandaids?
Why zero in on a result instead of a cause?

Teach them how to use "their swing"
Teaching TIMING of THEIR SWING....is simply NONSENSE.

Starting the lower half and keeping the hands and hips loaded until they see the pitch. Decide whether to go...or not to go. As a coach, I've seen monumental gains in my teams hitting by teaching timing. Teach them how to use "their swing". Teach them to load and be ready to fire on every pitch....with "their swing". Teach them to keep the hands back, but commit the rest of the body to every pitch, and only throw the barrel at what they see as a hittable pitch...aka a strike. Teach this FIRST.
This all sounds good. Sounds good doesn't it? Uses some good buzz words, doesn't he? Yet....this is the kiss of death for 99% of all amateur hitters.

What good is starting the lower half and keeping the hands back....when at decision....because of your existing mechanics....they have a slop move that they have to execute first before the barrel can be launched? ONLY A MECHANICS FIX CAN FIX THAT.

And that slop move CAN NOT BE TIMED consistently. That slop move...that is part of their swing....has to be built into their timing. And this guy is OK with that? OH MY. The slop move is the reason why hitters can't adjust adequately between high speed and offspeed. Whether that be a pitcher that has both quality speed and offspeed.....or....whether that be moving between pitchers....from one that features speed to a thumber. That slop move will haunt the hitter the rest of their playing career.

And to suggest that you teach a hitter how to deal with that slop move....rather than get rid of it.....is the height of nonsense. Sounds like a coach looking for a trophy rather than one interested in developing players. The short term bandaid will kill their long term goals.

Here is a slop move that has to be executed before he can swing....

Can you even identify it? Try timing this swing mechanic against a good pitcher with command of his fastball and his offspeed pitches. He will make this hitter move on to soccer.

And another with a dreaded slop move....

This hitter demonstrates the 'beloved' 'forward by coil'. Yet, on the other hand, he doesn't. His move is a slop move. Why? Can you figure it out. Compare his move to a high level hitter's forward by coil move. WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME THING....IS IN FACT....TOTALLY OPPOSITE.

Take a look at a high level forward by coiler. Can you find the difference?

The amateur hitter is full of slop. And...in fact....slop THAT WAS TAUGHT TO HIM.
