Pushing the bat with the hands/arms to contact is an all too frequent flaw seen in young hitters. When you push with your hands/arms you disconnect from the body and all that is left powering your swing is the arms.

The pronation of the top hand eliminates the "need" or "want" to push with the hands. Try it. Pronate your top hand in your swing and try to push your hands to contact. It's powerless. By simply pronating the top hand you give the body a "new goal". A goal other than pushing to contact.

This "new goal" can now be defined as "handle torque". From the top hand pronated position the body wants to reverse that or supinate the top hand at "go". This creates an arc of the barrel rearward. The weight of the barrel in this rearward arc creates resistance which the body uses to create separation. Quality separation is the "mechanical advantage" that high level hitters learn to develop. Separation leads to the "stretch and fire" or the "launch and spend" launch mechanics of the high level hitters. This is where their launch quickness and power come from.
