  • Happy Gilmore Drill

Rhythm is an important part of a high level swing. Rhythm indicates well timed movements or the syncing of the movements so that they can produce a high quality result. The Happy Gilmore drill aids in developing rhythm in the swing. It aids in syncing the various movements. While it is important to practice the many segments of the swing, many times hitters become mechanical or robotic as they try to put it all together.

Another flaw seen in young hitters is they don't "get off the back side". They leave too much weight back when they swing. This drill helps them learn to develop momentum. Notice how this young hitter develops sufficient momentum to the point that his rear foot travels 10-12 inches forward from the position it was in at launch.

The exaggerated movement and momentum of the Happy Gilmore drill is a great tool to help them learn the "feel" of putting it all together.
